Concerts cancelled in Iran on Saturday

As a tribute to those who lost their lives in Tehran’s Plasco Building fiasco, all concerts in Iran have been cancelled on Saturday, January 21.

The news was announced in a statement made by Arts Deputy of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Moradkhani.

“Following the sad and painful Plasco Building incident which put some of our compatriots in a grieving state and also in order to pay respect to all brave and devoted firefighters no musical stage performances will be held in the country,” the statement reads.

Plasco Building was a high-rise commercial building in downtown Tehran which caught fire on Thursday January 19 and the building collapsed a few hours later.

A number of firefighters were inside the building trying to put out the fire when the structure collapsed and some of them lost their lives.

Following the incident, many cultural and artistic events in the country were cancelled or postponed and the Iranian government declared Saturday a national day of mourning.

A number of international high-ranking officials sent their condolences to the Iranian nation and government.
